Sql Developer

Sql Developer for Oracle..........

Oracle SQL Developer is a free graphical tool for database development. With SQL Developer, you can browse database objects, run SQL statements and SQL scripts, and edit and debug PL/SQL statements. You can also run any number of provided reports, as well as create and save your own. SQL Developer enhances productivity and simplifies your database development tasks.

SQL Developer can connect to any Oracle Database version 9.2.0.1 and later and runs on Windows, Linux and Mac OSX.

SQL Developer includes the Migration Workbench, redeveloped and integrated to extend the functionality and usability offered by the original Oracle Migration Workbench. Its tight integration with SQL Developer provides users with a single point to browse database objects and data in third party databases, and to migrate from these databases to Oracle.

The latest release of Oracle SQL Developer includes provides integrated support for versioning and the source control systems CVS (Concurrent Versions System) and Subversion. Supporting the version control is a File Browser to browse and read files stored in the file system. You can open and edit these files from within SQL Developer. In addition to these main additions to SQL Developer, release 1.5 includes many updated features, such as SQL Formatting, Schema Compare, Copy and Export wizards and the addition of migration support for Sybase. Times Ten support is also integrated with the product.

Getting Started With Hibernate

This is the basic structure of Hibernate used application. The following 3 sections are used to establish the connection between actual database table and your java class. It's really simple. So first of all we'll learn the concepts & structure.

1. Persistence Class:

The persistence class is a Plain Old Java Object or POJO model. A POJO is comparable to a JavaBean, having getters and setters to access its properties that are the instance variables. The persistence class has the following characteristics:

a. It is the Object Oriented blueprint of the table to be persisted.

b. The attributes of the table become the instance variable of the persistence class.

c. The data type of the instance variables is the domain of the attributes.

d. The object of the persistence class represents the row of the tabl

2. Mapping file:

The mapping file is an XML file that contains detailed mapping between the persistence class and the table it represents. The required elements of this XML file are:

a. hibernate-mapping:

Hibernate-mapping is the root element enclosing all other elements.

b. class:

Class is used to map the table name to the persistence class. The name attribute is used to specify the class name, and the table attribute is used to specify the table which the class represents.

c. id:

This element is used to map the primary key of the table to an instance variable of the class.

d. property:

This element, along with its child element column, maps the other attributes (or columns) to the instance variables of the persistence class.

3. Hibernate Configuration file:

This file can be called the entry point to a Hibernate enabled application. It contains the configuration that controls the communication with the underlying database. In here all the mapping files being used by the application are declared. The hibernate-configuration element forms the root element.

a. property:

This tag is used to mention about configurations & database connections relevant information.

b. mapping:

By this element all the mapping files, also called hbm files, used by the application are declared.

It's all about making hibernate enabled application. Let's learn on practical example next.

Introducing Hibernate

Databases are complex to implement. This is especially true when components of a database based on two different approaches (i.e. object oriented vs. relational) must interact with each other. Object Relational Mapping (ORM) frameworks can act as mediators between the two approaches. Hibernate, the topic of this article, is an ORM framework for Java.

The best example of this is the Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) API. Though JDBC provides an easy method for accessing different databases without much ado, it is basically a low level API providing only a thin layer of abstraction. This is sufficient for small and medium projects, but is not well suited for enterprise level applications. What is required is a Framework that can act as a mediator between both parties (i.e. approaches).

Object Relational Mapping (ORM) frameworks are such mediators. The best example of an ORM framework for Java is Hibernate. This is the basic idea which a person should have before dealing with Hibernate. Actually Hibernate will make your database connectivity work really efficient one.
Going to discuss practical use of Hibernate in next posts.>>>>>>>>>>>>>
